India’s Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik will be part of the ICC World XI which will take on the West Indies in a charity T20 game at the Lord’s on May 31, BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhury said on Wednesday.”Hardik and Dinesh will be part of the World XI team for the charity match,” Chaudhury told reporters on the sidelines of the ICC meeting.Top-ranked bowler Rashid Khan of Afghanistan along with Bangladesh stars Shakib Al Hasan and Tamim Iqbal have also confirmed their participation. The match is being organised to raise funds for stadia in the Caribbean, which were damaged due to hurricanes last year.Other Asians who have already confirmed for the match are Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi and Shoaib Malik, and Thisara Perera of Sri Lanka. The proceeds from this match will be donated towards rebuilding and renovating five major venues as well as other community cricket facilities that were damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. The venues that will benefit include the Ronald Webster Park in Anguilla, the Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua, the Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica, the AO Shirley Recreation Ground in the British Virgin Islands and the Carib Lumber Ball Park in St. Maarten.(With inputs from IANS)

TORONTO – Making thousands of mentally disabled people wait indefinitely for provincial government supports after they turn 18 amounts to pushing them off a cliff without a safety net, an Ontario Superior Court heard on Tuesday. In urging certification of their claim against the Ontario government as a class action, lawyers for the plaintiffs argued the province’s use of waitlists was arbitrary and violated their clients’ constitutional rights.“It’s not about inconvenience. It’s not about frustration,” lawyer Kirk Baert told court. “It goes beyond that.”The unproven lawsuit, which accuses the province of harm-causing negligence, seeks $110 million in damages along with a declaration the government has failed adults assessed as eligible for government help but who have instead been placed on indeterminate waiting lists. The proposed representative plaintiff is Briana Leroux, 20, of Timmins, Ont., a woman with a mental age of about three who is unable to speak and lacks the most basic ability to care for herself. Her father Marc Leroux said outside court the loss of a day program and other help for his daughter when she turned 18 caused huge stress on the family.“All those programs were just stopped, and I think there should be a transition and there just is not,” said Leroux, 46, a real estate broker. “Families should be more respected by the government.”In recent years, a select legislature committee recommended eliminating the waitlists, while the auditor general has also criticized the system. In 2016, the provincial ombudsman, who had investigated more than 1,400 complaints from families of adults with developmental disabilities, said thousands of people had been left “stranded.”In court, Justice Edward Belobaba said the issue at this stage of the proceeding was not whether the province had “made a shambles” of the programs, but whether the plaintiffs could get over the relatively low hurdle of showing the existence of a legal foundation for a class action.Baert said the case was not about eligibility for services, noting proposed class members had all been assessed and approved for supports they weren’t receiving because of what he called unreasonably managed waitlists.“Everyone who’s in the class is by definition someone who hasn’t received the services they were entitled to,” Baert argued. For its part, the province argued that disabled adults have no legal right to supports. What they receive is the result of government policy decisions that allocate about $2 billion a year to help them.Provincial lawyer Robert Radcliffe insisted clients are assessed and prioritized according to their needs, with the most urgent cases getting help even after turning 18.“My friend would have you believe they just fall of the window sill or just fall off the balcony,” Radcliffe told Belobaba. “To say it’s arbitrary isn’t consistent with the facts.”Government co-counsel, Rochelle Fox, said the plaintiffs were making a claim for a “positive entitlement” by attacking what was a “quintessentially policy decision.” The government, Fox argued, was under no obligation to provide the programs to recipients, regardless of eligibility.“It is fundamentally a claim that the government is obliged to provide you with a positive benefit,” Fox said. “(But) failure to provide is not a deprivation.”Belobaba, however, pushed back at the notion that the current situation was the result of policy decisions that are immune to such a lawsuit. Belobaba noted the list of problems the plaintiffs allege, including a failure to shorten waitlists and the cutting off of those receiving services when they turn 18.“These are real allegations of deficiencies,” Belobaba said. “It’s not the policy of the government, say the plaintiffs, to have a totally screwed-up system.”The certification hearing continues.

SAN FRANCISCO — Federal prosecutors say a California utility’s role in igniting wildfires last year could allow a judge to find that it violated terms of its criminal conviction in a deadly gas pipeline explosion. In a court filing Monday, the U.S. attorney’s office in San Francisco cited investigations by state officials that blamed Pacific Gas & Electric power lines for some of the fires in October 2017. Investigators also said they found evidence PG&E violated state law.Prosecutors say a judge could use those facts to determine that the utility violated conditions of its probation in a conviction stemming from an explosion of one of its natural gas lines in 2010. The blast in the San Francisco Bay Area killed eight people.PG&E didn’t immediately return a request for comment. The Associated Press
Not only has Washington Redskins Daniel Snyder insisted he would not change the name of his NFL team, on Thursday the franchise formally appealed a ruling that stripped the team of trademark protection, the latest legal maneuver in the Redskins’ attempt to defend its name against those who consider it a racial slur. The team announced that it had filed its complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, and that it ”points out the many errors” in the decision by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The office’s Trademark Trial and Appeal Board voted 2-1 on June 18 to cancel six uses of ”Redskins” trademarked from 1967 to 1990, saying the name is ”disparaging of Native Americans.””We believe that the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board ignored both federal case law and the weight of the evidence, and we look forward to having a federal court review this obviously flawed decision,” Redskins lawyer Bob Raskopf said in the team’s statement. The team had previously said it would appeal the ruling and had two months to do so. The trademark protection remains in place while the matter makes its way through the courts, a process that could take years. A similar ruling by the trademark board in 1999 was overturned on a technicality in 2003. Native Americans have been challenging the trademark since 1992.The Redskins say they will ask the court to consider ”serious constitutional issues,” including whether the ruling penalizes the team’s right of free speech and whether the team has been unfairly deprived of ”valuable and long-held intellectual property rights.”The group of five Native Americans challenging the name is equally confident.”This effort is doomed to fail,” said Amanda Blackhorse, the lead plaintiff. ”But if they want to prolong this litigation, which has already gone on for 22 years, I guess they have that prerogative.”The Redskins have been under sustained pressure to defend the name over the last 18 months, with major political, church and sports figures joining the debate and saying it should be changed.Team owner Snyder has vowed never to change the name, calling it a ”badge of honor.””If people wouldn’t dare call a Native American a ‘redskin’ because they know it is offensive, how can an NFL football team have this name?” Blackhorse said. ”We know that time is on our side for a change in the team’s name, and we are confident we will win once again at this stage of the litigation.”
SRK Consulting has repositioned itself to grow with Peru’s expanding mining industry through a merger with Lima-based firm, SVS Ingenieros. SRK, one of the world’s largest diversified resources consulting groups, previously had an office in Peru but closed it in 2002 during the mining downturn. Group CEO Andy Barrett said SRK and SVS have enjoyed a strong working relationship for about 20 years. “We have had quite a lot of work in Peru over the past five years or so and decided in 2010 to explore opportunities to re-establish SRK in Peru in order to better service our clients,” he said. “SVS has a very strong position in the market, particularly with Peruvian companies, and they also do a lot of work for international companies.”Current projections indicate mining investment activity in Peru should continue growing by some $4 billion a year over the next 4-5 years. The merger with SVS will enable SRK to gain “a foothold in Peru via an established base from which to add new services”, says Barrett. “We aim to combine SVS’s strong capabilities in tailings, environment and rock mechanics with our mining and geology skills to serve our clients in Peru and augment our international teams, particularly in Latin America,” he said. SRK opened an office in Mexico and a second office in Argentina in 2011, in addition to their offices in Chile and Brazil. “In SRK, growth is seen as the result of doing the right things: attracting and retaining excellent professionals and providing reliable, value-adding services to our clients. All of our practices focus their strategies on becoming both the ‘employer of choice’ for competent, ambitious professionals and the ‘consultant of choice’ for clients. SVS will be no different. If we can get these things right, we will perform profitably and grow.”SVS was founded in 1985 by Antonio Samaniego, Ernesto Valle and Carlos Soldi. The company initially provided services in geotechnical and underground engineering, mainly to the mining industry, with a staff of about 20 engineers and scientists. In 1998, following the approval of environmental legislation for mining activities in Peru, it expanded its services to the environmental field. From 2001 the range of services expanded to the design of mine tailings and waste facilities, and mine services and field construction supervision (including QA/QC). It now has about 130 staff. About 90% of SVS’s current work is in Peru, with the remainder in Mexico, Ecuador, Bolivia and Argentina. However, the merger with SRK may present more opportunities for the company outside Peru over the next 2-3 years. The union will also expand the range of services to include mining engineering, geology and other specialised work. According to Barrett, there are good opportunities in Peru for mining / geology services. “We will need to find the right Peruvian professionals to get established in these areas,” he said. Recruiting experienced professionals remains one of the top challenges for the business, says SVS’ Carlos Soldi, who has more than 30 years’ experience in the industry. SVS will retain its name initially but will change to SRK Consulting within five years. “Our three key goals for the business over the next five years will be to consolidate our market in Peru and diversify the range of technical services we can offer our current clients; expand the number of clients to which we offer engineering services to increase the size of our current market share in Peru; and ensure our technical staff can profit from its interaction with SRK’s personnel and thus improve the quality of the consulting work we do.” SRK Global will own 30% of SVS and senior SVS shareholders will hold an equivalent investment in SRK Global.

By John O’Sullivan Delaney (left) with Lord Mayor of Cork Declan Hurley (centre) and FAI president Tony Fitzgerald (right) at last year’s Festival of Football. Image: Tommy Dickson/INPHO Share Tweet Email1 Image: Tommy Dickson/INPHO Delaney (left) with Lord Mayor of Cork Declan Hurley (centre) and FAI president Tony Fitzgerald (right) at last year’s Festival of Football. 39 Comments Apr 5th 2019, 12:03 PM STATEMENTS SUPPORTING JOHN Delaney are everywhere this past fortnight, shared with a uniformity of message that has led some to joke authors are working from a template.More serious are claims the letters are from individuals, not reflecting the organisations represented.Limerick FC’s Pat O’Sullivan and Waterford FC’s Lee Power, chairmen who have earned the right to speak on behalf of their clubs — whether fans like it or not — have released statements in support of Delaney and have been slated on Twitter and Facebook. The statements are sent and the social media backlash simply won’t register for the majority of the authors. Rather than dismissing the emails as North Korean style propaganda, it’s important to simply recognise the fact that John Delaney is hugely popular across many levels of Irish football and this is understandable.Touring the FAI AGM around the country and turning it into a Festival of Football was – and is – a brilliant initiative. For the majority of clubs who’ve never produced senior international players, exposure to Ray Houghton, Keith Andrews and Ronnie Whelan is huge to people who have given their life to their local club.Journalists joke about the amount of times Delaney will be seen on the five-minute video showcasing each Festival of Football, but watching those videos in that frame of mind is to miss the genuine happiness on the faces of those around him at each event. It’s not his presence per se, but the buzz, the media, the photographers, the internationals and the fun the festival brings. It might only be for an hour — but for that hour — that club is front and centre, maybe for the first time. Limerick FC chairman Pat O’Sullivan has been among those to come out in support of Delaney. Source: Donall Farmer/INPHOThe local GAA club can produce inter-county players to hand out medals at an U10 blitz, the local soccer club is largely starved of access to heroes who play on a national stage. The cheques dished out on these tours can be viewed cynically but they’re invaluable to the small clubs who struggle year on year. You can justifiably call it ‘parish pump’ politics, you can rightly point out that’sit’s not Delaney’s own money being handed out, but that’s not the point and it is how Ireland works.Delaney visiting 2,000 clubs during this tenure is equivalent to a TD canvassing 2,000 homes before an election. Chats will be had, gripes heard, notes taken and support offered. Photo opportunities will be plentiful. If the potholes are fixed or the new goalposts secured, credit is given.People who have been well served by the FAI under Delaney’s tenure will see John Treacy speaking at an Oireachtas committee and not care. Sure, he was a marathon runner. What has he ever done for us? When did he last attend a soccer match? Has he ever been at one? Subscribe Short URL Source: The42 Rugby Weekly/SoundCloudSubscribe to our new podcast, The42 Rugby Weekly, here: Friday 5 Apr 2019, 12:03 PM That Sport Ireland govern and fund the FAI to the tune of millions each year gets lost in the noise if your club needs a fundraiser and the right email can get you Mick McCarthy to speak at an event. We can decry apparent small-mindedness, the lack of ‘big picture thinking’ but what we’re talking about are people largely volunteering as best they can at a local level, with their own versions of the problems we see where our interests lie. They see Delaney turning up for a local third division game – as he did in Cashel last Sunday – and they see a football man, one of their own. Their statements make reference to the family time he’s missing, giving up his weekend. A busman’s holiday, working in football all week, but still relaxing with it at the weekend, chatting with them.I’ve been in Delaney’s company and he’s likeable. He can be charismatic, does love the game and is genuinely knowledgeable about it. He’s easy to talk to and generous with compliments and giving credit. On a personal level, I’d say I like him far more than he likes me.I’ve had arguments with him about the League of Ireland and I’ve been hugely critical of some FAI actions under his tenure. But I can also appreciate his attendance at a FORAS Hall of Fame fundraiser in 2009 at a time when we were at odds with the then owner of Cork City FC, it was a stance he didn’t have to make. I even have a photo with him from that event myself. On a very basic level, what niggles at the back of my head are those photos you always see when Delaney visits clubs. The volunteer beside the paid administrator with the public profile. In statements last week, both Limerick FC and Cahir Park FC — the latter shared by Irish Sun journalist Owen Cowzer — made reference to the family time that Delaney gives up, as though football was a hobby outside of work, when it is his work. He’s not a volunteer and volunteers should be unburdened of the idea that the near €1,000 per calendar day Delaney was being paid by the FAI is not enough to recompense the lost family time he gives. Time volunteers give themselves — often for little more than a thank you.I tweeted during the week about the time I give to my local grassroots club where I coach. Outside my own job and family time, last week I gave at least sixteen hours across six days coaching, at matches, at workshops and lining pitches. That’s before the interactions with parents, the organising, the emailing, washing kit and all the other things in the background that occupy every single volunteer in the country. Source: Twitter/johngosullivanI’m not even one of the busier volunteers at my own club, there’s committee members with additional duties and who sit on local schoolboys’ committees and coach at county level alongside their club volunteering. Not one minute of it is paid.John Delaney is a paid employee of the FAI board. Any CEO (or EVP) of an organisation with a €50 million revenue cannot expect it to be a nine to five job and, to be fair to Delaney, he does put in hours. However, when football is your passion and also your job, the game has to change. You can enjoy football chats with people you admire, listen in amazement to their stories and experiences. You can be the last person to leave the fundraiser, making sure everyone has had a good night, you can be genuine in every compliment you pay those around you. However, when you’re paid to oversee and govern an organisation your affability, charisma and football knowledge aren’t the indicators against which your performance is measured. There’s a lot being written and said about the FAI and Delaney these days, he’s neither all villain nor all hero, but his attendance at your field opening funded by sports capital grants has nothing to do with the matters under discussion regarding governance of the FAI by the Oireachtas committee, and vice versa.Gavan Casey and Ryan Bailey are joined by Bernard Jackman to look back on a thrilling weekend of European rugby on the latest episode of The42 Rugby Weekly: https://the42.ie/4578209 Why Delaney’s ‘parish pump’ political style has won him support around the country However, the fact that the FAI boss has visited 2,000 clubs isn’t relevant to the issues up for discussion at an Oireachtas committee hearing next week, writes John O’Sullivan. 23,844 Views Tweet thisShare on FacebookEmail this article
Malayalam film IllayarajaTwitterMalayalam film Illayaraja, which has been written and directed by Madhav Ramadasan, is set for grand release across UAE and GCC on May 2. Indywood Distribution Network booked good numbers of screens in these regions.Illayaraja is a drama film, which has been produced by Sajith Krishna, Jayaraj T Krishnan and Binish Babu under the banners of Movie Musical Cutz and Mumbai Cine Talkies. The film stars Guinness Pakru in the lead role, with Gokul Suresh, Deepak Parambol and Harisree Ashokan in supporting roles. Ratheesh Vega has composed its background score and songs and Pappinu has cranked the camera for it.Director Madhav Ramdasan has beautifully portrayed the life of a family residing in Thrissur and the happiness, the sorrows and the struggles they share under their small roof. He explores the likes and desires of the children, the attitudes of various sections of the society and the beauty in finding contentment in the little things.Mollywood has made movies on gifted young children earlier and they have become a great success with the audience. Ilayaraja is no different from them, as it is about child epitome, struggles of trying to fit into the society and the roles of parents who try to encourage their kids’ development could be seen. It is a feel-good tale with noble intentions. It is meant to cater to family crowds.Illayaraja is said to have scored particularly well in two departments, sound and photography. The actors in the movie have done a fantastic job. Harisree Ashokan as grandpa and Anil Nair as the loan shark have showcased a remarkable performance. The music in the movie beautifully blends with the story and the cinematography too received a special attention post its release in India.
The lawyer representing Payal Tadvi’s family told the court that the circumstances of her death suggested it was a murder case.FacebookThe post-mortem report of Payal Tadvi, who allegedly ended her life after facing “extreme harassment” and casteist remarks, has revealed evidence of a ligature mark on her neck. Under ‘provisional cause of death’, the autopsy report stated ‘evidence of ligature mark over the neck.’A Mumbai court on Wednesday (May 29) sent all the three accused in the suicide case of postgraduate medical student doctor to two-day police custody as her family sought directions for the crime to be treated as a murder. The lawyer representing Tadvi’s family told the court that the circumstances of her death suggested it was a murder case.”From the circumstances of her death and bruise mark on her body, we can say that it must be a case of murder and not of suicide. Police must investigate this case in the lines of a murder investigation. Police should be given 14 days time for that,” said Nitin Satpute, counsel representing the deceased’s family as quoted by news agency ANI.Satpute alleged that the accused had taken her body to some other place and later it brought it to the hospital so there is a suspicion of tampering with the evidence. The case was being heard before magistrate RM Sadrani of a Mumbai sessions court.Seeking the maximum custody of 14 days, prosecutor Jay Singh Desai told the magistrate that the witnesses are under pressure.”The accused are superior to almost every witness in the case. Witnesses are afraid of the accused to give their statement. This case may create social unrest if not investigated properly. The police have to retrieve WhatsApp communication from the phones of the accused,” Desai argued. In defence, the lawyers representing the accused dismissed the charge of abetment of suicide and told the court that the three were not aware of Tadvi’s caste.Responding to the request of treating the case as a murder, accused Bhakti Mehre’s counsel Sandip Bali said, “As the intervener claimed that this is a murder case, I will emphasize that let all medical reports come in.”Mehre’s lawyer also contended that the abetment of suicide charge, saying that it is only based on the statement of Tadvi’s mother and is not supported by any other proof.Advocate Abad Ponda, appearing for accused Hema Ahuja and Ankita Khandelwal, rubbished the claims that the deceased was harassed on the basis of her social identity.”Accused were not aware that the deceased got admission under any quota so they did not know her caste,” he argued. The accused, Ankita Khandelwal, Bhakti Mehre and Hema Ahuja, were arrested for allegedly abetting the post-graduate medical student Dr Tadvi, who belonged to the Scheduled Tribe community, to end her life at her hostel in BYL Nair Hospital on May 22.The hospital administration had formed an anti-ragging committee to probe the case. The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD) had suspended the three doctors, who on Monday, wrote to the association urging for a fair probe.
Vijay Devarakonda in Dear Comrade.PR HandoutThe Tamil version of Dear Comrade has opened to fairly positive reviews from the audience and critics. While the message and the performances of the lead actors are the highlights, the inconsistent screenplay is the major drawback of the multilingual film, which has Vijay Devarakonda and Rashmika Mandanna in the leads. The story of Dear Comrade revolves around hot-headed student union leader named Bobby played by Vijay Devarakonda and Lily, a state-level cricket player. His violent streaks become a threat to their love story as Lily, who lost his brother in one such violent incident, is unwilling to continue her relationship with him. What follows next should be seen on-screen.Dear Comrade is packed with lots of emotions. It does not have one-sided story with surprises at regular intervals. The conflicts of the two characters have been presented with sensitivity for which director Bharat Kamma deserves appreciation. The movie has some powerful one-liners and a strong message. Justin Prabhakaran’s music is one of the high points of the Vijay Devarakonda and Rashmika Mandanna’s film. However, the screenplay fails to hold the viewers’ attention and poor climax is a big letdown. The dubbing quality of the Tamil version is also not up to the mark. Despite all the odds, it is a one-time watch, say Kollywood cine-goers. Check out their tweets below:Sreedhar Pillai: #DearComrade 3/5. Lovely with a subtle message from Dir #BharatKamma & fab camera #SujithSarang. @TheDeverakonda as fiery student with a violent streak & madly in love is awesome. @iamRashmika in a intense role is a revelation. Drawback 1st & 2nd half looks different & too long.Sidhu: #DearComrade: Hat tip to @justin_tunes for his incredible effort. Definitely one of the best albums of the year, and that’s proved further when the starting bit of Pularaadha gets more claps and whistles than VD or Rashmika’s entry! #DearComrade: Saw it in Tamil (was doubtful about subs for Telugu), and was pleasantly surprised to see the transition done well. Neat dubbing, prop edits and little changes made to suit it to the audience. Cheers to the guy who dubbed for @TheDeverakonda #DearComrade: The film is strong in setting up the tale of Bobby and Lilly, doing it through lovable situations and some fantastic dialogues. When the two conflicts collide, it loses some focus and gets elongated in the process. Still, held together by VD and Rashmika. #DearComrade: A refreshing, mostly effective tale that comes with special performances, great music and cinematography. The second half may not be everybody’s cup of tea but it does get its relationships right and stands up for the theme. Very good film. #DearComrade Interval: So good. A charming, heartfelt love story progressing through the amazing pair of @TheDeverakonda and @iamRashmika . Lot of moments that put a smile on our face, and it gets better thanks to the fabulous music!Haricharan Pudipeddi: #DearComrade is both beautiful (mostly) and problematic (at places) with some pacing issues. A well narrated tale of love, companionship and healing. @TheDeverakonda is terrific and it’s not surprising but this film belongs to @iamRashmika, who is unbelievably good.Prashanth Rangaswamy: #DearComrade tamil – Pathetic Dubbing. Movie very very slow. Second half holds. Mass scenes of @TheDeverakonda and emotional scenes of @iamRashmika – Really enjoyed. An one time watch . UK court orders extradition of Vijay Mallya After Mallya stepped down from the board of UBL in October 2017, Shashikant set up a firm called United Branding Worldwide in Bengaluru.ReutersThe investigation in the multi-crore bank fraud involving fugitive liquor baron Vijay Mallya has widened after the Enforcement Directorate detected unaccounted transfer of funds by his former executive assistant V Shashikant.Based on an intelligence input, the ED raided the residential and business premises of Shashikant on July 24. He was an employee of Vijay Mallya till February 2017 and a former Managing Director of United Breweries Holdings Ltd (UBHL).The investigation revealed that UBHL exported Kingfisher beer and shoes manufactured by United Breweries International Trading Limited and was liquidated after Kingfisher Airlines defaulted on loan repayment of about over Rs 7,000 crore to banks.UBHL owned 10.72 percent stake in United Breweries Ltd (UBL). Heineken, a Dutch brewing company, now owns over 46 percent stake in UBL.After Mallya stepped down from the board of UBL in October 2017, Shashikant set up a firm called United Branding Worldwide in Bengaluru in which his wife Jayanti Shashikanth and daughter Archita are partners.”It has been detected that this partnership firm has taken over the business of UBHL for exporting both kingfisher beer and shoes and export turnover is approximately Rs 220 crore per annum,” said an ED official. The firm has monopolistic rights for exporting and trading all brands of Kingfisher beer since March 2018.”One interesting fact has also come to the notice that 60% of export by UBG has made to M/s Tammy International Dubai which in turn exporting beer to other countries,” the ED official added. Tammy International is allegedly owned by Shashikant’s son-in-law.Ultimate Branding is allegedly getting a commission from UBL for “getting business” and the profit is being “repatriated” to Mallya through “overlapping transactions” to fund his “daily maintenance and legal expense”.”I have never heard of Tammy International and have no connection with them,” Mallya told The Indian Express in an email response.”We acknowledge that the Enforcement Directorate searched the offices of Ultimate Branding Worldwide. We have extended full support to them and shall continue to do so. We deny the allegation that the two companies are associated with Vijay Mallya nor do they have any transactions with him,” said a spokesperson of Ultimate Branding.Various incriminating documents, emails and WhatsApp messages were seized during the raid in Shashikant’s office, which indicate that V Shashikant was is in regular touch with Mallya. The ED also found that Mallya’s dummy companies – Gold Reef Investments Ltd and McDowell Holdings Ltd – support 20 to 25 employees of UB Group. The agency has frozen shares worth Rs 3 crore held by McDowell Holdings Limited.

Go back to the e-newsletterInternationally recognised artist Bruce Munro’s immersive installation, Field of Light Uluru, opens 1 April 2016, at Ayers Rock Resort in the spiritual heart of Australia. In keeping with the desert’s vast scale this is Munro’s largest work to date, more than 50,000 slender stems crowned with radiant frosted-glass spheres over an area the size of four football fields. It is also the artist’s first work to be illuminated through solar power. The spheres, connected via illuminated optical fibre, will bloom as darkness falls. Pathways created by the artwork will draw viewers into the installation, which will come to life under a sky brilliant with stars.British artist Bruce Munro is best known for producing monumental light-based installations, which often employ a massing of components by the thousands. Frequently, Munro’s subject matter is his own experience of fleeting moments of rapport with the world and existence in its largest sense, of being part of life’s essential pattern. His reoccurring motif is the use of light on an environmental scale in order to create an emotional response for the viewer.Munro conceived the idea for the Field of Light while visiting Uluru in 1992, but it wasn’t until 2004 that the artist was first able to realise it for London’s Victoria & Albert Museum, followed by a larger iteration in a field behind his home. Field of Light has since captivated visitors in differing site-specific iterations at locations across the United Kingdom, the United States and Mexico.“Field of Light was one idea that landed in my sketchbook and kept on nagging at me to be done,” said Munro. “I saw in my mind a landscape of illuminated stems that, like the dormant seed in a dry desert, quietly wait until darkness falls, under a blazing blanket of southern stars, to bloom with gentle rhythms of light,” he said. “Field of Light is a personal symbol for the good things in life.”“I now have the honour and privilege of returning to create an iteration of this artwork for the place that inspired it. A work conceived in the red desert returns to its birthplace springing from the dry ground,” said Munro.“Field of Light Uluru presents an absolutely unique opportunity for guests to enjoy not only the spiritual nature of the destination, but experience it in a unique and mesmerising way,” said Voyages Executive General Manager Sales, Marketing and Distribution, Ray Stone.Guests to Ayers Rock Resort can experience the installation in a number of ways, with options including a two hour visit, a Night at Field of Light dining experience and the option to enjoy at Sunrise as the lights fade into the morning light. The exhibition, aptly named Tili Wiru Tjuta Nyakutjaku or ‘looking at lots of beautiful lights’ in local Pitjantjatjara, will be in place for a full year throughout the desert’s distinct seasons, and will close on 31 March 2017.“Logistics for a project such as this are immense, and we are fortunate to have the expertise of Qantas, the official airline partner of the Field of Light, who transported the unique stems of light all the way from the Bruce Munro Studio directly to Ayers Rock Airport”, said Ray.The Qantas Group transported the stems, weighing in total approximately 15 tonnes, more than 19,000 kilometers (11,800 miles) over 32 international and domestic flights to Australia, the farthest a piece of Munro’s artwork has travelled to an exhibition.Qantas Freight Executive Manager, Alison Webster said Qantas has a long history of supporting the Arts and is proud to be part of this project. “We are thrilled, as Australia’s national carrier, to be involved in this unique project which quite literally shines a spotlight on one of the most breathtaking and special places in the world, Uluru.”Presenting Partner, Investec saw the exhibition as one with synergy to their core values. “We were drawn to Bruce Munro’s Field of Light Uluru as we feel that it is an “Out of the Ordinary” installation in a truly magical place,” said Greg Joubert, Investec Head of Marketing and Communications.Go back to the e-newsletter
