President of MX (MotoCross) Jamaica Chris Lee says the daCosta Farm race track, which was set to host Round 3 of the 2018 MotoCross Summer Series yesterday, is in need of better maintenance if it is to overcome tough weather conditions. The track, on the outskirts of Spanish Town, was left in conditions not fit for competitive riding after heavy rains, and Lee said they will look into how they can better prepare the track to stand the test of such weather. “The track was flooded from the torrential rains that we had, and that is why we cancelled,” Lee told The Gleaner. “We didn’t know what condition the track would be in when it was dried. It’s almost dry now, but there is a lot of work to be done. The track needs some maintenance, so hopefully, we can do it in the next two weeks. “Right now, I don’t know how much work it is going to take, but there is a group of us that looks after track preparation. So we all have to come together and work out what we need because we cannot afford for the rain to mess us up again,” he said. The event, which is the third and final in the series, will be rescheduled as soon as repairs to the track are completed. “It will be rescheduled as soon as we get the track ready, and we can have a full weekend before where they (competitors) can come in when it’s open and prepared so they can practice. Then, we will have the race the next weekend,” he said. He added that although the cancellation was not a big disappointment, he and riders alike were looking forward to the conclusion of the series. “This is not the first event we are having; this is the last in a series. I don’t think it has dampened anything because they all understand,” he said.

1 Radamel Falcao’s agent Jorge Mendes has admitted the striker’s future at Manchester United is uncertain.Falcao is currently at Old Trafford on a season-long loan deal from Monaco, which includes an option for the Premier League side to make his switch permanent in the summer. But speculation has been rife in recent weeks over whether he will stay with the Reds Devils beyond the term, having failed to hit the ground running for Louis van Gaal’s side. The 28-year-old Colombian has netted just three times so far in an injury-affected campaign in which he has spent a lot of time on the bench, but he was left out of the squad altogether for Sunday’s 1-0 home loss to Southampton.Reports have suggested Falcao was shocked by Van Gaal’s decision, a call the manager claimed was tactical, with Van Gaal stressing after the match that the striker had started the previous five fixtures. And, while Mendes conceded he is unsure over Falcao’s long-term future at Old Trafford, he also warned the striker could walk into any of the world’s top sides if United decide to let him leave. The super agent, who also represents the likes of Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo, Angel di Maria and Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, told Sky Italia: “He is a fantastic player, and I think it’s very difficult for Manchester United fans.“They have an absolutely brilliant player, one of the very best in the world, who would without any doubt play 90 minutes of the match, every time, with any other club.“The truth is, right now we don’t know what will happen.“What we do know is that he will play in one of the very best clubs in the world next season, whether that is Manchester United or not.“I am 100 per cent sure of that. But you know how football works, we need to wait a little. We’ll see what happens.” Manchester United striker Radamel Falcao

Spurred by the deportation of activist Elvira Arellano earlier this week, hundreds of marchers are making their way through the streets of downtown to demand immigration reform. On-scene estimates of the crowd vary from 500 to 2,000 marchers, who assembled before noon at the corner of Olympic Boulevard at Broadway. After getting underway slightly behind schedule, the peaceful, orderly group headed toward the Federal Buildings on Main Street, chanting slogans and waving banners. “Immigration reform is something America has to deal with sooner rather than later,” said march organizer Javier Rodriguez. “Elivra (Arellano) has become a symbol to unify all our efforts.” Arellano, a former cleaning woman at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport was deported to her native Mexico last Sunday after a year-long standoff with immigration officials. After illegally entering the country twice, she rose to prominence in 2002 after becoming ensnared in an immigration sweep. She was convicted of using a fake Social Security card, but ducked deportation by seeking sanctuary in a Chicago church. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents caught her in Los Angeles last Sunday and sent her to Tijuana, sparking outcry among activists.

Councilmen Tom Labonge, Greig Smith and school board member Marguerite LaMotte were among the first incumbents to file for re-election; even-numbered City Council districts and odd-numbered school board seats are up for election.
