More administrative help is needed, they have told their audiences. And more ticket buyers and corporate sponsors are needed — or else. What that “else” might be will be announced after the final show of this 25th anniversary season on May 22, a performance by Rainbow Dance Theatre at Camas High School. Rainbow Dance — founded in Hawaii in the early 1990s, hence the rainbow in its name — is a prominent regional touring company, based in Corvallis, Ore., that represented Oregon at the 2005 World Expo in Japan. Led by co-artistic directors Valerie Bergman and Darryl Thomas, both professors at Western Oregon University, the group’s distinctive work mixes modern technology with West African, Haitian and hip hop, plus martial arts and American Modern. The Camas program will feature such pieces as “Man of My Dreams,” which incorporates scooters and a Segway in creating a surrealistic wedding party, “Mixed Bag,” a meditation on garbage, and “Big Bang,” showing a dark sea of creatures evolving into a wide range of animals.
