Mumbai-based realty major Lodha Developers on Tuesday announced plans to build the world’s tallest tower at a cost of Rs 2,000 crore in central Mumbai. Players in the real estate business are of the opinion that there would certainly be demand for this mammoth project.According to Yashwant Dalal, president of the Estate Agents Association of India, a project of such magnitude will surely invoke a lot of curiosity. The tower is expected to be ready by 2014.”The property prices in Worli in central Mumbai are anywhere between Rs 60,000 to Rs 65,000 per sq ft depending on the building and the amenities. A project of such big magnitude would surely be priced at a premium. We anticipate that there would be some demand for the project from high net worth individuals,” he said. For the project, Lodha Developers has tied up with New York-based architectural firm Pei Cobb Freed and Partners and structural engineering firm LERA. The project, christened World One, is to be built over 17 acres at Upper Worli.”Through the partnership with global architects, designers and engineers, the company seeks to bring to Mumbai a landmark, which would exemplify the spirit of Mumbai – to always soar higher through hard work and passion,” Abhisheck Lodha, director of Lodha Developers, is reported to have said. The company, which plans to launch a $650-million initial public offering (IPO) later this year, will start bookings by the end of June, 2010. The company plans to fund the project through a combination of customer receipts, accruals of the company and debt finance. “If need be, we might also go in for private equity funding,” Lodha added.advertisementThe building would include about 300 exclusive homes, including three-four bedroom World Residences, lavish World Villas with their own private pools and a limited number of uber-luxurious duplex-world mansions. The company plans to construct three residential towers, a high-end shopping avenue and a world-lass office building.”At over 1,450 ft in height, World One would be the tallest residential tower in the world, which would be rated as Gold Leed certified building,” Lodha added. The units would be ranged between Rs 7.5-Rs 50- crore. Lodha’s also stated that it has already received booking for a few units during prelaunch, which are priced at over Rs 25,000 per sq ft.”We have taken special measures to ensure the highest levels of fire safety and have designed the structure to manage the effect of wind and seismic movements,” Lodha said. The site would have over twolakh sq ft (or five acres) of landscape area for the residents, including a special 80,000 sq ft sports club at a height of 175-feet above ground.Pawan Swamy, managing director (western India), of Jones Lang Lasalle Meghraj, a global realty consultancy firm, said Lodha Developers have the necessary permissions to build a similar project at their recently acquired plot at Wadala for a whopping Rs 4,050 crore.Anand Gupta, Honorary treasurer of the All India Builders Association of India, said the project is something that all should all be proud of.”The structure and the skyline of the city symbolise the development and the progress of the city. If 10 to 20 such projects come up, it would not only mean a huge inflow in terms of revenue to the state government but also the growth the state is seeing,” he said.Earlier, in the first week of April, 2010, a 3,640- sq ft sea facing duplex flat on the 19th and the 20th floors of Samudra Mahal in Worli, Mumbai was sold for Rs 33 crore making it one of the most expensive deals in the country with a flat rate of over Rs 90,000 per sq ft.
Even as the Commonwealth Games (CWG) organisers have been struggling to get various projects completed, they now face a new hurdle. Seeking immediate payment of their dues, the contractors working on these projects have threatened to stop work. The contractors working on the projects of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) related to the Games claimed that their payments totalling over Rs 650 crore were pending with the MCD. Seeking immediate disbursement of their payments, over 200 contractors gathered outside the city town hall on Wednesday. They alleged that they have not been paid for last 18 months to three years for various contracts of MCD. Those working on the CWG projects said they have not been paid for the past five months. As an ultimatum, they have already stalled all civil works apart from the CWG-related projects. Contractors said they have not stopped work on CWG projects yet as it is a matter of national prestige.
Such is the preparedness of London for the 2012 Olympics, the city could well host the quadrennial extravaganza next week. If you thought this was an exaggerated statement, this fact was reiterated by Gordon Innes, CEO, London & Partners, who is now in India on a quick tour.Gordon Innes, CEO, London and Partners.Speaking to Mail Today, Innes, who works closely with London Mayor Boris Johnson, said that things were on track and the city was excited about welcoming all the tourists next summer.”It’s not just about the Games, many more events will be held in London at that time and we are excited about it. In fact, the Mayor said we should have the Games next week so that we can win all the medals!” said Innes. On a serious note, Innes spoke at length about how London was not worried about what was going to happen to the sporting venues when the Games end. “We have studies the previous Olympics and the Commonwealth Games, including New Delhi. The good thing is most of the venues in London can be dismantled and the place can be put to better use,” said Innes. The CEO sees London as the biggest sporting destination even after the Olympics are over. “London is keen to show that these will be the people’s Games and the greenest Games ever. However, even after the big event is over, we will have more sporting activities. We are bidding for the IAAF World Championship and in Seb Coe we have a great help,” he said.advertisementInnes said London already hosts four NFL Games, and was also going to bid for the 2012 UEFA Cup. “We are determined to make London a big sporting destination as we have fantastic venues,” he said.About the biggest concern for hosting the Games, Innes said “security is always an issue.” Would the incidents of violence this July in Britain be remembered for the wrong reasons? “As our Mayor said, it was elements of pure criminality which resulted in arson. However, the Metropolitan Police got it under control quickly,” he said. With the second tranche of Games tickets going up for sale shortly, Innes said the demand was huge. “One plus is those who’ll be lucky enough to win the lottery and buy tickets can travel in London without having to pay. It’s included in the ticket cost and the train network will be very good for passengers who can alight at the Olympic Park,” he said.Innes spoke of the ‘Javelin service’ which is a quick train run from Kings Cross to the Olympic Park in just around ten minutes.According to estimates, 3,30,000 visitors will be in London during the Games and they should get their visa work done in advance as there’ll be a rush. “However, we will be having extra staff working in all our embassies to clear the rush,” added Innes.
Out of form off-spinner Harbhajan Singh was today dropped while Rohit Sharma was recalled in India’s Test squad for next month’s tour of Australia.Pace spearhead Zaheer Khan, who missed most part of the England tour and ongoing series against the West Indies because of an ankle injury, has been provisionally included in the squad subject to passing the fitness test.Bengal wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha was also named in the 17-member squad ahead of Parthiv Patel but there were no other major surprises in the team announced by the BCCI Secretary Sanjay Jagdale after a meeting of the selection committee here. The team, to be captained by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, will have Virender Sehwag as his deputy. Sehwag was yesterday named captain of the team for the upcoming ODI against the West Indies after Dhoni was given rest. The selectors more or less retained the core of the team that has been doing duty in the ongoing series against the West Indies which meant that Harbhajan continued to be in the wilderness.Yuvraj Singh, who was not considered for selection for the ODI series against the West Indies after he declared himself unfit, was also not included in the team which has five pacers, including Zaheer, and two specialist spinners in Pragyan Ojha and R Ashwin.Mumbai batsman Ajinkya Rahane, who has made quite an impression in the few opportunities he has got, has been retained in the team while fit-again Rohit was recalled. The Test series against Australia will begin with the Boxing Day (December 26) Test in Melbourne, followed by three other matches in Sydney (Jan 3-7), in Perth (Jan 13-17) and in Adelaide (Jan 24-28).The squad M.S. The sale of Dadri wetlands, home to several wildlife species, in Greater Noida to a private builder has come under the Environment Ministry scanner for flouting environmental laws.Environment Minister Jayanthi Natarajan told Rajya Sabha on Tuesday that her ministry had received a complaint regarding reclamation of wetland habitats in Bil Akbarpur by Ansal Private Limited and had sent a central team to verify the complaint. The team found that the sale of the wetland area by the state government violated the green clearance condition that no wetland should be infringed during construction and any wetland coming in the project area should be suitably rejuvenated and conserved. The clearance to the project was granted by the State Level Environment Impact Assessment Authority of UP.Mail Today had first reported the spotting of blackbucks, blue bulls, chinkara and four-horned antelopes by wildlife enthusiasts.”This wetland harbours a good concentration of avian fauna in terms of biodiversity and density and is considered to be a viable avian habitat,” Natarajan said. She, however, clarified that there was no corroborative evidence of the presence of 200 endangered species of birds in the area.According to a survey conducted by the UP government in 2009, Bil Akbarpur has been identified as an important wetland, covering 4 hectares.Natarajan told the House that a show cause notice was issued to the builder under Section 5 of Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 to stop any construction, earth filling or land reclamation work in the vicinity of wetland.”The entire area has been concretised and there is nothing left. The builders and a local big college had bought the entire wetlands area. The government wants to sell each bit of that land so that no such reservoirs are left,” ecologist Anand Arya said.advertisementStrangely, the district forest department has long been denying the considerable presence of wildlife and has been claiming that there were only a few species in the area. It had even denied that there were wetlands in the area though its own RTI replies revealed that Bil Akbapur had 4 hectares of wetland.”The Greater Noida authority is spending crores to develop a night safari, that too artificially, but it can’t see the vast potential of an area, which exists naturally and on which it just has to spend minuscule amount to conserve it,” activist Vikrant Kumar Togad said on whose complaint the ministry acted. The fact-finding team sent by the ministry in January had recorded the presence of blackbucks and rare migratory birds in and around the habitat.”We are pursuing the government to initiate immediate steps to declare it as a sanctuary,” Togad added.”We have recorded more than 220 species of birds, including Sarus (state bird of UP), Blue Throat and waterfowls like Malard, Pintale, Shovelers, Garganey, Pochards, Wigeons and Waders. It is the richest bird habitat in Delhi’s vicinity but the government is hardly concerned,” Arya said.

When Student of the Year and Hasee Toh Phasee star Sidharth Malhotra entered the media event to celebrate his second cover with Men’s Health magazine at the The Orchid Five-star Ecotel Hotel on Saturday afternoon, the air was charged with instant electricity.A superstar in the making had made an entry, but his casual demeanor left many confused. As Sidharth unveiled three covers – the first one being his Men’s Health cover from seven years ago – it was apparent that this was an actor whose biggest asset was his freshness that would eventually break the mould.Sidharth Malhotra celebrates his second cover with popular men’s magazine.”I was just an ordinary guy seven years ago trying to find my feet when I made it to the cover of Men’s Health in February 2007,” he said. He sportingly drew comparisons between the two covers. ” My abs are better now, aren’t they?” he asked.”The thing is, in 2007, I continued being a parantha- eating Delhi boy. But now, I’m zero per cent paranthas , if I have to be an actor, I need to look good.” Also unveiled was India’s first ” selfie cover” by Sidharth and photographer Prabhat Shetty.Sidharth Malhotra poses for the shutterbugs as he unveils the cover.”The selfie concept was not planned, I must admit,” said Shetty. ” Sid was just playing around with expressions when this shot happened.” Men’s Health Editorial Director Jamal Shaikh defended their decision to repeat Sidharth on the cover. ” Men’s Health India has never repeated anyone on its cover ever – not a Bollywood star, not a sportsperson, not a model! But Sid is an exception. Not only is he an MH discovery, he also exemplifies what the MH guy is about – fit, good looking, confident, with focus, perseverance, and now, super successful too!” While posing for pictures, Sidharth dodged questions on the girl he’s currently dating. He also talked about how he often takes ” funny selfies” to share with his friends. At one point, he playfully pinched his waist and asked, ” Girls like love, why don’t they like love handles?”advertisement
Both NorthEast United and Kerala Blasters will be eager to start their campaign with a win todayA humdinger of a contest is on the cards as NorthEast United FC take on Sachin Tendulkar co-owned Kerala Blasters FC in the second match of the Indian Super League(ISL) on Monday. The Ricki Herbert-coached home side will bank on the support of a fanatical home following and a potent attack to help breach the Kerala citadel, which will be guarded by a hugely competent defence.Intrigue surrounds the Kerala Blasters goalkeeping spot, as it remains to be seen whether marquee player-manager and former England goalkeeper David James will play himself, or take up managerial duties on the sidelines. The home side will reap the cohesive benefits of its youthful, albeit relatively inexperienced, Indian contingent who hail from Shillong Lajong FC.The visitors will not be disadvantaged as their Indian players have been handpicked by assistant coach Trevor Morgan from among his former East Bengal wards. All eyes will on the mercurial attacking mid-fielder Mehtab Hossain, who was Morgan’s first pick during the domestic player draft.Kerala Blasters are banking on Mehtab to unleash his destructive potential on the opposition and try to nip all NorthEast attacks in the bud in the middle of the park. This is a great chance for Mehtab to show the world why he is hailed as India’s best defensive midfielder. For the home side the match to watch out for will be Cornell Glen. The former Trinidad & Tobago World Cupper, who has past Indian experience with Shillong Lajong, is expected to front an incisive attack which has Luis Padilla, James Keene, Sergio Pardo, and Seimenlen Doungel as the support options. Expect Colin Falvey, Cedric Hengbert, Jamie McAllister and other rocks in the Kerala defence to secure their fortress with great determination.advertisementAnother NorthEast United FC who will also have his share of spotlight is Alexandros Tzarvos, Greece’s 2010 World Cup goalkeeper. His presence under the bar will lend assurance to his teammates. A clean sheet will be his great contribution to the cause.Kerala Blasters will also rely on the season Penn Orji. Morgan may rely on his trusted former hand to unlock the home defence which will be helmed by marquee player Joan Capdevila. The wily Nigerian central midfielder is quite capable of providing a few moments of magic that can create the openings and enable the likes of Michael Chopra, Iain Hume, Andrew Barisic to take full advantage.
